Hi, I’m Billy!
Former NASA Engineer
with a passion in STEM Edu.
I hold multiple teaching positions in Hong Kong,
love tinkering with engineering projects,
and enjoy outdoor adventures in my free time!
My Areas of Expertise
Aerospace Engineering
I taught courses on the fundamentals of aircraft and spacecraft design, as well as overall space mission planning with orbital mechanics.
Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning
I provide instructions to advanced students by learning AI & ML with Python, covering both shallow and deep learning models, as well as simulation-based agent training via reinforcement learning, leveraging my skillsets in game dev.
Robotics & Mechatronics
I am currently teaching 3 courses at HKU SPACE that enable students to invent their own gadgets by combining mechanical design, electronics and programming.
Game Dev
I am a seasoned participates in the Global Game Jam hackathon annually since 2015 and is well versed in 3D modeling and programming! I also helped students in HK to bring their game idea to life.
Biography
Since a young age, I was fascinated by airplanes, rockets and space exploration. Combined with my dream of creating my own video game, I developed the necessary skillsets in 3D modeling and computer science to eventually become an aerospace engineer at NASA. My research area is focused around artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, and robotics. Some of the projects that I was involved in included the Lunar Space Station, Neural Robotic Navigation, Hybrid Electric Aircraft, Deep Space Mining, and Satellite Laser Communication.
I was fortunated to have many mentors who help me succeed along my engineering career. Therefore, STEM education is important to me as a way for me to give back to the community. Over the years, I ran NASA’s Young Innovators program in Aerospace and Mechatronics to serve those in needs in the Cleveland area.
In early 2020s, life brought me back to Hong Kong as a caregiver for my parents. And here, I pivoted and started my new life as a STEM educator.
